Privacy Policy

The short version. This website collects very little: your name and email if you choose to send them, and ordinary technical information your browser shares with any site. I do not sell it, trade it, or use it for advertising. If you are a client of my practice, your clinical information is governed by a separate document — my Notice of Privacy Practices — not by this one.
Two different things, kept apart
It matters that you understand the distinction, because people often assume a website privacy policy covers their therapy records. It does not.
- This policy covers the website — what happens when you visit drmitchabblett.com, read a page, or fill in a form.
- My Notice of Privacy Practices covers your health information — everything connected to actual clinical care. You receive that document before we begin work together, and it is the one that carries HIPAA protections.
A message sent through a web form is not a clinical record and does not carry the same protections. That is why I ask you not to put health details into one.
What this site collects
Information you choose to give me
The site has a small number of forms. Between them they ask for:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Optionally, a sentence about what you would like to talk about
Nothing on this site asks for your date of birth, your address, your insurance details, your diagnosis, or your payment information. If a form ever appears to, it is not mine — please tell me.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, this one records ordinary technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, which pages you opened, and when. My website platform, Kajabi, also sets cookies that keep the site working properly — remembering that you are logged in, for example.
You can set your browser to refuse cookies. Parts of the site may stop working properly if you do.
What this site does not use
There is no advertising or retargeting tracker on this site. Nothing here reports your visit to an advertising network, and you will not be followed around the internet with ads because you read a page about therapy.
What I do with what I collect
- Reply to you when you get in touch.
- Send you the newsletter or free resource you asked for.
- Keep the website working and secure.
That is the whole list.
What I never do
- I do not sell your information. Not to anyone, at any price.
- I do not rent, trade, or share it for someone else’s marketing.
- I do not use it to target advertising at you.
- I do not add you to a mailing list because you contacted me about therapy. Those are separate, and you have to ask for the newsletter.
I may have to disclose information if the law requires it — a valid court order, for instance — or to protect someone’s safety. That is rare, and I would tell you unless I were legally prevented from doing so.
Please do not send health details through this website
The contact form is a good way to say you would like to talk. It is not a safe place to describe symptoms, history, medication, or anything else you would consider private.
Ordinary email and web forms travel across systems neither of us controls. If something matters and is sensitive, say so on the phone or wait until we meet. You will not be penalised for saying very little in a form — that is exactly what it is for.
If you are in crisis, please do not use this website. Call 911, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or go to your nearest emergency room. I do not monitor this site continuously and I do not provide emergency services.
Who else can see this information
A small number of services help run this practice, and they can technically access what passes through them:
- Kajabi, which hosts this website and stores form submissions.
- My email provider, which delivers the message when a form notifies me.
They are bound by their own agreements with me and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes. They are located in the United States, and information you send is stored there.
How long I keep it
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Enquiries that do not become clinical work are kept for two years and then deleted. Once someone becomes a client, their clinical record is governed by my Notice of Privacy Practices and by Massachusetts record-retention requirements, not by this policy.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from any email I send, using the link at the bottom of it. It works immediately.
- Ask me what I hold about you, and I will tell you.
- Ask me to delete it, and I will, unless I am required to keep it as part of a clinical record.
- Refuse cookies in your browser settings.
Just email me. There is no form to fill in and no hoop to jump through.
Children
This website is written for adults and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect information through this site from anyone under 13.
I do work clinically with children and adolescents. That work begins with a parent or guardian, and the information involved is handled under my Notice of Privacy Practices — not through this website.
Security
This site uses standard encryption in transit, and I limit who can reach what. No website is perfectly secure, and I would rather say that plainly than promise otherwise. That is the honest reason I ask you to keep sensitive detail out of web forms.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version appears on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will be flagged rather than made quietly.
